JTEKT Factory Integrated Security Project

Our Client

This 60,000sq ft car parts plant needed to stop thefts from inside and outside the building from opportunist thieves and determined night-time intruders.

Notes & Feedback

The new system has led to a 100 % reduction in scrap metal theft from the factory. Incidences of internal metal theft have also completely stopped. Since we carried out the initial work we have expanded the system to cover the roof of the factory including deep roof gutters which were hard to see without a physical inspection. Staff can now monitor when maintenance work needs to be done without risking working at height.

We have also been asked to install automatic gate systems as a future project.

THE BRIEF

Installing the cabling throughout the factory while it was in operation was our major challenge. To minimise disruption we used an IP-based system – but this did require upgrading of the company’s firewalls and additional network security.

Overview

What was the problem?
This 60,000sq ft car parts plant needed to stop thefts from inside and outside the building from opportunist thieves and determined night-time intruders.

What security devices did you install?
Select worked on this project with Glamorgan University’s ‘Glamex’ security innovation team. Glamex provided a newly-designed remote monitoring APP ‘live-guard’ system. This was integrated with Honeywell’s Galaxy alarm system and a range of static and movable Panasonic HD IP CCTV cameras. The cameras provided very high-quality pictures. We minimised the amount of cabling infrastructure we needed to install by using the existing high-speed Local Area Network within the factory, saving the client thousands of pounds in cabling costs. Select had two select engineers on site to install the system working with two Glamex engineers who commissioned the integration and set up the remote monitoring ‘live-guard’ app which enables live alarm messages and video to be transmitted in real time to a remote monitoring station. This makes the system extremely reactive. For the second part of the system, we installed internal HD cameras to monitor and deter theft of expensive metals from within the business. This has also proved a useful tool for staff management and health and safety monitoring.

What challenges did you face in installing the system?
Installing the cabling throughout the factory while it was in operation was our major challenge. To minimise disruption we used an IP-based system – but this did require upgrading of the company’s firewalls and additional network security.

Any other work carried out?
We project-managed the electricians employed to carry out infrastructure work for the new RayTec LED security lighting system and the civil engineers who carried out the duct work, concreting and installed the galvanised CCTV columns.

The Select Difference

WE LOVE A CHALLENGE

What makes Select different is not only that it offers customers the very latest security technology – but its highly qualified engineers are willing to tackle any and every job, no matter how challenging the location. That includes installing systems on farms in remote areas with no electricity supply for miles and systems at industrial complexes and in busy city centres (including at one of the UK.
